BGL demands quick strategy for drive turnaround

At their last meeting, the EU’s transport ministers were not able to agree on the council’s position regarding the directive on the dimensions and weights of trucks.

An agreement could have made a significant contribution to climate protection and vehicle efficiency gains, Germany’s Road Haulage, Logistics and Disposal Association (BGL) said in its press release. The industry association is now calling for a strategy with a timetable to be developed quickly to increase the attractiveness of alternative drive systems without any loss of payload.

BGL also mentioned long-term CO2 saving potentials that could be immediately realised without additional infrastructure costs. One of these options would be the use of extended articulated trucks. (ben)
