Better railway connection for Rijeka
Ten companies have submitted their offers in response to the public tender issued by the infrastructure department of the Croatian railways Hrvatske zeljeznice (HZ) concerning an upgrade of the Krizevci - Koprivnica rail link in the north of the country. 85% of the costs of EUR 297 million will be co-financed by the EU with funds from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme.
The project includes rebuilding the existing railway line on a length of 42.6 km, as well laying a parallel set of tracks. The Krizevci - Koprivnica line is a key component of the European Mediterranean corridor and part of a project to modernise the rail connection between Zagreb (Croatia) and the Hungarian border. The aim is to improve conditions for railfreight services to and from the port of Rijeka on the Adriatic coast. (ben)
