Belgian port reorganises train traffic
A new operational model for single wagon loads will be introduced in the Antwerp port area from 1 January 2024. Railport, which manages rail traffic in the Belgium harbour, divided the port into zones based on consolidated volumes and operational optimisation.
Then, after receiving a mandate from freight payers in these zones, it launched a tender for the first and last mile in each zone. The freight payers can now enter into an agreement with the selected railway operators, which will offer their services on neutral basis, to all interested parties.
Until now, there have been many different rail operators, each with its own operational model and without collaboration between them. (ben)
