Battery powered train passes first test
A battery powered train from Alstom has successfully completed its first test run in Chemnitz (Germany). Designed and manufactured as a prototype in Hennigsdorf, the train travels via Flöha and Zschopau back to Chemnitz, changing its mode of propulsion from catenary operation to battery power.
The train was developed in cooperation with various project partners, including DB Regio, the regional transport company for Baden-Württemberg, the German national innovation programme for hydrogen and fuel cell technology and the Technical University of Berlin. The federal ministry of transport and digital infrastructure is funding the project with around EUR 4 million.
The train will be in regular service in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria from the timetable change in December 2021. (ben)
