Batteries for heavy electric trucks
Volvo Trucks is opening its first-ever battery assembly plant in Ghent, Belgium. The plant will supply ready-to-install batteries for the Swedish manufacturer's all-electric heavy trucks. Samsung SDI cells and modules will be assembled into battery packs tailor-made for Volvo Trucks' heavy electric vehicles: Volvo FH, Volvo FM and Volvo FMX.
Series production will begin in Q3/2022. Each battery pack has a capacity of 90 kWh, of which up to six can be used in a truck. The batteries are designed so that they can be reused later. The plant itself is powered by 100 % renewable energy. (ben)
