Barcelona imposes ban on dark stores
In Europe, there is a growing tendency for politics to become involved in city logistics. In Barcelona, the town council recently approved a total ban on dark stores, as Reuters said. This is the name for facilities used as distribution hubs by companies that offer grocery home deliveries.
The announcement follows similar rulings imposed by other European cities such as Amsterdam, where restrictions were introduced in 2022.
The Barcelona ban will come into force in due course, once it is published in the official government gazette, and will initially affect 21 dark stores in the city. (sh)
