Baltic's biggest cargo airport aims even higher
In 2019, Riga airport (RIX) handled 27,300 t of cargo, 44.5% of which were direct mail shipments. Last year, almost half of all air cargo in the Baltics was handled in the Latvian capital.
For Ilona Līce, chairperson of the board, the development of the cargo segment is one of the airport's priorities. Construction of a new cargo apron was started last year, which will allow RIX to double its handling capacity and increase its attractiveness for air cargo carriers from all over the world.
Last November, RIX also signed an agreement with DHL Logistics for the construction of one of the most advanced shipment processing and logistics centres in Europe. In cooperation with investors and international aviation logistics experts, the airport also plans to develop a multifunctional cargo logistics centre. (ah)
