Baltic Rail Gate sets the mark, again
Baltic Rail Gate (BRG) was able to handle the 100,000th load unit at its terminal recently. Like many other logistics companies, the subsidiary of the Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft (LHG) and the Frankfurt-based Kombiverkehr looks back on a difficult year.
“In April and May we saw downturns of between 25% and 30%,” says managing director Antje Falk. However, the summer slump was less noticeable than usual, as supply chains gradually stabilised. Since autumn, business has been picking up again. Thus, the company even registered its 100,000th load unit in November.
Nevertheless, BRG will not quite achieve last year’s record volume this year. Falk expects a minus of 2,000 crane operations compared to 2019.
Prospects for the future are promising, though, since the Austrian freight forwarder Lkw Walter plans to introduce an additional three weekly block train service between the Baltic Sea and Italy next year. (cd)
