Baltic port of Lübeck exceeds results of 2019

Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft (LHG) handled 12 million t of goods in H1/2021, making up for the Corona-related shortfalls of 2020.

"With an increase of 4% compared to 2019, we have continued our earlier successes," said LHG managing director Sebastian Jürgens. "This was only possible because the shipowners kept their systems open during the crisis and were thus able to handle additional volumes without any problems."

Compared to the previous year, total throughput rose by almost 13%, with only forest products disappointing. As in the past, the ro-ro segment was the main driver for business, with the throughput of accompanied trucks rising by 12% to around 200,000 units, and that of trailers by 19% to over 190,000 units.

The handling of new vehicles, which was rather restrained in the previous year, increased by more than 50% to about 50,000 vehicles. The intermodal terminal of the L HG subsidiary Baltic Rail Gate recorded a similarly positive development. Meanwhile,  LHG is continuing the strategic restructuring of its four terminals. (cd)
