B787 cargo door still made in Sweden
Boeing has renewed its partnership with Saab for the manufacturing of large cargo doors, bulk cargo doors and access doors for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The framework agreement is an extension of an existing contract signed in 2004, which has seen the Swedish aerospace company delivering over 1,100 shipsets.
According to Lars Tossman, head of Saab’s aeronautics department, this agreement enhances the cooperation of Boeing and Saab, "both on commercial aerostructures and the T-7A trainer on the defence side."
Like many other major 787 structures, the doors are mainly made of composite materials, mostly at Saab's Linköping site. A range of systems are built into the doors’ composite structures, providing Boeing with lightweight doors that are easy to install. (ah)
