Autonomous trucks operate at port’s terminal
Hutchison Ports Thailand has become first port operator in Thailand to pilot autonomous truck technology in its operations at Laem Chabang Port, Terminal D. The six electric Qomolo’ trucks - also known as the Q-Truck - arrived at Terminal D from Shanghai, China on 26 April.
During a one-year test phase, the trucks will be integrated into the existing conventional fleet of trucks to transfer containers between the quay and the yard.
Q-Trucks can operate non-stop for more than 24 hours. The introduction of these autonomous driving vehicles marks a huge step forward for the development of the nation’s ‘smart’ infrastructure along the eastern economic corridor (EEC). The new trucks will make operations at the terminal more safer and more efficient, Hutchison Ports said. (ben)
