Autonomous robots at work in Leipzig warehouses
As part of a pilot project, DB Schenker has introduced autonomous robots from the manufacturer Gideon Brothers at its location in Leipzig (Germany). The logistics services provider has thus opted for a flexible solution for automating logistics processes in existing warehouses.
The robots, which are equipped with cutting-edge technology, enable the company to increase its productivity without having to modify its facilities, DB Schenker says. The autonomous logistics robots view their surroundings with the help of stereoscopic cameras.
With artificial intelligence they create and save a map of the surroundings and so can navigate safely around members of the staff, stationary obstacles and other cargo handling vehicles. Each robot can carry a load of 800 kg. (ben)
