Automated train dispatch

DB Cargo handles more than 5 million freight cars at its marshalling yards per year. Now the railfreight company is turning the München-Nord marshalling yard into Germany's first digital freight station, increasing capacity by up to 40%. Automation will enable freight trains to depart faster, more flexibly and more frequently.

These are crucial prerequisites to shift more goods to the railways: DB Cargo aims to replace 30 million trucks by 2030 and thus save 10 million t of CO2.

The German government is funding the project with more than EUR 14.5 million, and DB Cargo is investing an additional EUR 12 million. DB Cargo is now gradually putting its digital test field in Munich into operation, in cooperation with partners from industry and science. (ben)
