Australian farmers reduce freight costs
In Australia, farmers and regional communities will significantly reduce freight costs through the deployment of Inland Rail, a new study shows. Shifting horticulture and post-processed agriculture from road to rail will save an average AUD 76 (EUR 48) per tonne, with cost reductions ranging from AUD 64 to AUD 94 (EUR 40-EUR 59) per tonne.
Shifting agricultural products from the current coastal line to Inland Rail will save an average AUD 31 (EUR 19) per tonne. Shifting flowers and other agricultural produce from road to rail between Parkes to Narromine in New South Wales will reduce the number of heavy vehicle trips along segments of the Newell highway by 63,000.
