Australian carrier orders diesel electric locos
Pacific National Railways has contracted Cimic Group’s UGL to design, manufacture and supply new fuel-efficient diesel electric locomotives. With this order, the freight locomotive manufacturer expects to generate revenue of USD 297 million over seven years.
UGL is Australia’s only manufacturer of freight locomotives. The C44 Evolution locomotives will be the most technologically advanced, fuel-efficient, and environmentally compatible diesel electric locomotives in Australia, produced in Newcastle, New South Wales, UGL said.
Pacific National is Australia’s largest private railfreight operator, transporting both bulk commodities and containerised freight. (ben)
