Australia to expand intermodal facilities
Australia’s new federal budget includes an AUD 3.8 billion (EUR 2.57 bn) investment in the country’s intermodal infrastructure. The Australasian Railway Association (ARA) has welcomed the budget’s recognition of the importance of rail freight to the nation’s supply chain.
The range of new funding initiatives including the Melbourne intermodal terminal package, additional funding for Inland Rail works and for the Tasmanian freight rail revitalisation programme.
Funding for a business case to evaluate the upgrade of the Maroona to Portland Port Rail Line in Victoria was also included. Furthermore, the federal budget contains fundings for the Pinjarra heavy haulage deviation, and for the Mid West secondary freight network, WA. (ben)
