Australia has great airfreight potential

Airfreight only represents 1% of Australia's trade volume. But a new report released by the independent think tank Infrastructure Partnerships Australia and BIS Oxford Economics shows that the goods travelling in the bellies of international aircraft arriving and departing Australia are worth EUR 68 billion annually (2019: EUR 71 billion).

The "2019 International Airfreight Indicator" reveals that one in every five AUD of the country's traded goods travels via air, more than 96% of them passing through the four main capital city airports Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

The report urges that, "in a period of heightened trade tensions and structural economic change, it’s critical that we use data like that presented (...) to improve the way we plan, regulate and invest in our freight sector." (ah)
