Aurizon adds bulk and general freight segments
Australian rail carrier Aurizon is acquiring the entire business of One Rail Australia from Macquarie Asset Management for AUD 2.35 billion (EUR 1.51 billion). ORA operates in South Australia, the Northern Territory, which includes the Tarcoola-to-Darwin rail line, Queensland and New South Wales and the Hunter Valley.
The railway specialises in intermodal, coal and bulk haulage services. Aurizon will divest ORA’s NSW and Qld business through a demerger or a trade sale and retain and integrate the ORA bulk and general freight assets into its business.
The takeover is expected to be completed until April 2022. The transaction is still subject to certain regulatory and consent approvals. (ben)
