Augmenting rail services to Turkey
Cobantur Boltas, a Turkish-German logistics group, is extending its range of intermodal services. The freight forwarder recently despatched its first company intermodal train managed by Kombiverkehr from Munich in Germany to Halkali in Turkey. Traction along the route is provided by DB Cargo on behalf of Kombiverkehr.
Initially, the train will run once a week in both directions. It will cover a distance of around 2,000 km each way and cross six national borders - without having to reload the containers.
Compared to road transport, the new company intermodal train saves almost 80 t of CO2 in the round trip, thus reducing emissions by 70%. (ben)
