ATA urges more efforts to fix Australia’s roads
In a press release, the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) said that the government must improve the country’s freight roads to support the country’s road haulage sector. Specifically, the association suggested investing an extra AUD 5 billion (EUR 3.03 billion) into road infrastructures over ten years.
To keep truck drivers safe, ATA added that the government needs to fix dangerous level crossings and install rest areas, because “drivers aren’t seeing enough in the way of results”.
Finally, the association demanded more investments to develop a defined all-weather network, with supporting secondary routes pre-approved for use, to deal with road network closures due to fires, floods, and crashes. (ben)
