Associations demand legal steps against Tyrol

Block clearances in Kufstein (Tyrol, Austria) are regularly causing up to 80 km long truck traffic jams on the Bavarian border (Germany).

The affected drivers have to hold out on the motorway for hours without any supplies or sanitary facilities. Sufficient alternatives for a large-scale shift of traffic to rail are not available.

In a joint letter, the German BGL (Bundesverband Güterkraftverkehr Logistik und Entsorgung, Federal Association of Road Haulage, Logistics and Disposal), other European transport associations and the IRU (International Road Transport Union), are now calling upon the EU to take legal action against Tyrol's anti-transit measures. The industry has made similar demands in the past - so far without result. (ben)
