Asian air cargo rates remain high

Despite the usual drop in global air cargo spot rate prices in January, an analysis of market data conducted by World ACD shows that they are 20% up compared to the second week of last year. Although average global spot rates decreased by 3% to USD 2.76/kg compared to week one of January, they still remain 22% higher on a year-on-year basis.

In comparison with week one, average Asia-Pacific spot rates decreased by 5%, which is 27% higher than in week two of 2024. In the final two weeks of last year, Asia-Pacific to USA demand and spot pricing stayed firm. At the end of the year the average price for the Asia-Pacific region to the USA was USD 6.41/kg.

In week one, Asia-Pacific to the USA tonnages fell by 24% week-on-week, but then increased by 14% in the second week. Furthermore, spot rates continued to decrease, as did those from China to the USA. Compared to last year these rates remain 37% respectively 10% higher. (js)
