Asia-Pacific to Europe tonnage fails to rebound
According to the latest weekly air cargo trends supplied by World ACD, global airfreight tonnage rose by 8% in week three of 2025. In the previous week tonnage rebounded by 29%. This means that tonnage is up to 90% of the level reported in the last week before Christmas. Average worldwide spot rates remained stable.
Tonnage from the Asia-Pacific region rose by 5% in week three. Compared to the third week of last year, tonnage also increased by 5%, which thus represents a 10% margin between 2025’s week three and the peak levels reached in week 49.
In last year’s week three, the tonnage rose back up to 95% of the peak level attained in December 2023. According to World ACD, some executives in the air cargo industry are concerned about the steep drop-off since mid-December, especially in Europe. In week three Asia-Pacific to Europe volumes came in 20% below the peak in the previous December. (js)
