Around ten vessels to get eco-upgrades
Damen Shipyards Group and CMA CGM have announced a collaboration to enhance the fuel efficiency of approximately ten CMA CGM vessels by over 10%. The modifications will take place at Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque (DSDU) and Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSAM), which between them have some of Europe's largest dry docks and extensive experience in complex refits and retrofits.
The cooperation will involve the installation of bow bulbs on the vessels, marking the first time CMA CGM has used European shipyards for these modifications. Nine CMA CGM vessels are scheduled for modifications this year, with three receiving bow bulb installations.
Additional upgrades offered by Damen include propeller upgrades, propeller nozzle modifications, and silicone paint, all of which can help to save fuel and reduce emissions. Three of the vessels will also be equipped for shore power access.
The partnership between Damen and CMA CGM is expected to be long-term, with DSDU and DSAM providing the necessary services to meet CMA CGM's requirements. (pb)
