Are green corridors on the way?
According to the relevant 2022 annual report prepared by the Global Maritime Forum for the Getting to Zero Coalition, green corridors made headway around the world this year.
However, the report also emphasises the need to involve actors beyond the strictly maritime port sphere, such as shippers and fuel producers, and national administrations. Collaboration will be necessary to close the cost gap between fuels with zero net carbon emissions and fossil fuels.
The 'Annual Report on the Maritime Green Corridors' registers more than 20 initiatives and 110 participants involved, coming from the main sectors of maritime transport.
Yet, most of these initiatives are at a very early stage of development, with only a handful of them having reached the feasibility and planning phases so far. For now, they are too focused on maritime transport. (sh)
