APM Terminals' Rijeka project goes fully green
Rijeka Gateway, a joint venture between APM Terminals and Enna Group in Croatia, will operate entirely on electricity sourced from renewable energy, which also involve solar and wind power. This shift aims to significantly reduce CO2 and other emissions, making the terminal one of the most advanced and sustainable in the Adriatic region.
The terminal, which will create 300 jobs upon full operation, incorporates various eco-friendly measures, such as advanced water management systems, automated lighting to minimise light pollution, and shore power connections to reduce ship engine use.
Additionally, noise reduction measures, including soft landing technology for cranes and white noise signals, aim to minimise the terminal’s impact on the local environment.
The use of renewable energy aligns with A.P. Moller – Maersk's broader decarbonisation goals, targeting 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2040. Enna Next ensures that all electricity supplied to the terminal is certified as renewable, contributing to the project’s sustainability ambitions. (pb)
