Antonov Airlines flies Californian compressor
In cooperation with Air Charter Service, Antonov Airlines provided an urgent air cargo transport solution to move an oversized compressor from San Bernandino, USA to Avalon, Australia on board of one of AN-124-100 aircraft. The cargo’s journey took four days.
The total weight of the cargo was 67 t including additional equipment and comopressor weighing 35.5 t and measuring 11.33 m in length and 3.63 m in height. The size of the cargo meant that the AN-124-100 aircraft type was the only option for transporting the unit by air.
For loading and unloading the compressor on the stand, the teams used a special ramp system for tall cargoes designed by Antonov's in-house engineers, as well as onboard winch. The external cranes for cargoes up to 100 t were provided by Air Charter Service at both airports. (cj)
