Another victim of the pandemic
After 40 years of service in the air and more than 20 years as museum plane at Hamburg airport, the B707-430 Lufthansa D-ABOD is now nearing the end of its life.
Economic difficulties caused by the corona crisis force the airport, which "celebrated" its 110th birthday in January, to adapt its costs and structures.
During the evaluation, it emerged that maintenance costs for the historic long-haul aircraft were too high: The D-ABOD will be scrapped and individual parts will be auctioned off at the Dechow auction house in Hamburg.
The four-engine aircraft goes back to the beginning of the jet age, and its -320C convertible version was the most popular. A B707 of the Iranian Saha Airlines, probably the last of its type in service, crashed during a cargo flight on 14 January 2019, killing 15 people. (ah)
