Another UAV option for the middle mile

Airflow, an aerial logistics company found by five former Airbus Vahana team members earlier this month in San Francisco, is developing the first electric short take-off and landing (eSTOL) aircraft designed for middle-mile logistics.

The need for rapid middle-mile logistics capabilities (80-320 km) is increasing significantly due to e-commerce growth. To address that need, Airflow’s aerial logistics service, which is expected to go into production in 2025, can move 225 kg of cargo and time-sensitive medical supplies directly between warehouses without using traditional airports.

Airflow’s eSTOL aircraft requires less than 45 m to take off and land using a 90-m runway, about the length of three helipads next to each other. (ah)
