Another hybrid truck on trial
Contargo, a container hinterland logistics network, has taken delivery of a Scania hybrid truck that runs on electrified overhead lines.
The vehicle is a third of set of five trucks that are being trialled on a section of the road between Langen/Mörfelden and Darmstadt/Weiterstadt in Germany. The truck runs on Diesel until it reaches the access road to the motorway.
Here, its pantograph docks on to the overhead lines and the electric drive is switched on so that the truck can cover the 5 km test route powered by electricity.
Having completed the trial run, the truck can continue its journey in this way for a few kilometres more, as it is equipped with a battery that is recharged from the overhead lines by means of energy recuperation. (ben)
