Anniversary train on Brenner route
With an anniversary train, Lokomotion and Rail Traction Company (RTC) are celebrating 20 years of cooperation in railfreight services on the Brenner axis. On 15 October 2001, the company’s first freight train set off from the Munich Riem station in Germany bound for Verona in Italy.
Today, 10–15 roundtrip trains run on the Verona-Munich line every day. In 2005, the service was expanded to include the line to Tarvisio.
With more than 145,000 trains, the companies have shifted nearly 3.6 million heavy vehicle trips from transalpine roads to the Brenner railway over the last 20 years. With the anniversary train, the companies want to highlight railfreight's role in improving climate protection. (ben)
