Animal transports in good hands

The 2025 conference of the Animal Transportation Association (ATA), hosted by Qatar Airways Cargo in Doha, gathered 146 industry experts to discuss live animal transport, focusing on handling, welfare, compliance and innovation.

Key moments of the event included a welcome speech by Eric Wilson, senior vice-president for global sales at Qatar Airways Cargo, and a panel on AVI handling and welfare.

Willem Lodewijk Berk was appointed ATA president at the meeting. Attendees also visited Qatar Airways Cargo’s animal centre.

Further discussions covered motion sickness, transport risks, equine nutrition and paperwork errors, emphasising a preventive approach to animal welfare.

Chief officer cargo Mark Drusch reaffirmed Qatar Airways Cargo’s commitment to high standards. The airline is the first carrier to complete all Iata CEIV certifications and continues to prioritise animal welfare through initiatives like its ‘WeQare Rewild the Planet’ programme. (ah)
