An autostore facility for 23,000 containers

Contract logistics provider Craiss in Germany has completed the modernisation of a warehouse and production site for a well-known technology group and set up an automated small parts facility (AS/RS) at its customer’s plant in Tübingen.

Small components required for the production of gear motors - screws, shafts, plastic parts - are now automatically stored by 13 robots and picked as needed. The 23,000-container autostore facility offers more capacity, higher storage density, a lower error rate in order assembly and saves time and costs, says Craiss.

The autostore replaces the previous automated storage system. The system was changed while the plant was in operation, so that production could continue.

Craiss was founded in 1931 and has developed from a classic freight forwarder into an international logistics service provider with a special focus on transport management and contract logistics. The family-owned company has 21 locations in seven countries, 1,000 employees, 500 vehicle units and 250,000 sqm of warehouse space. (ben)
