AN-124 carries Thai Dornier aircraft
Ruag MRO International is comprehensively modernising Dornier 228 aircraft for the Royal Thai Navy, which uses them to monitor the exclusive economic zone called the "200-mile zone" of the Gulf of Thailand.
Initially, Ruag, which is also the manufacturer (OEM) of the versatile aircraft that can also perform cargo operations, will now be modernising two of the seven aircraft in the customer's fleet. This also includes transporting the aircraft to and from Thailand and providing training in the use of the new equipment.
For the upgrade, the aircraft were disassembled on site in Thailand. Subsequently, an AN-124 transport aircraft flew the Dornier 228 to Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, where a comprehensive inspection will be carried out. In the process, the paint will be removed completely and any corrosion damage to the 25 years old aircraft structure eliminated. (ah)
