AMT changes hands
The Naples-headquartered Grimaldi Group has significantly enlarged footprint in the port of Amsterdam. In a first step, the group purchased 80% of the shares of the Amsterdam Multipurpose Terminal (AMT) with a 20-year concession. The remaining 20% is owned by TMA Holding, a Dutch logistics operator.
In a second step, the new affiliate AMT bought assets from the company EMA which are located in the Amerikahaven area of the Dutch capital’s port and cover a surface of over 200,000 sqm, including, amongst others, two quays – the first, which is about 500 m long, assigned to ships deployed on deep sea routes, and the second, about 300 m long, for the berthing of vessels serving short sea links. The price of the transactions was not disclosed.
With its deep sea connections, the Grimaldi Group has been calling at Amsterdam for over 25 years. The port is currently part of the Central Express service, which regularly connects Northern Europe with West Africa. Now, the Grimaldi Group is planning to transform it into a gateway for imports of new vehicles and for its distribution services in Northern Europe. (sh)
