Americold expanding Christchurch site
Americold has broken ground for the USD 34 million expansion of a temperature-controlled storage facility in Hornby, Christchurch (New Zealand).
The project will more than double the site’s current capacity and support growing demand on New Zealand’s South Island from various sectors, including FMCG, retail and QSR. The Christchurch development is Americold’s third expansion project in the Apac region in the past two years.
“Temperature-controlled warehouses play a critical role in the farm-to-table supply chain,” according to Richard Winnall, president for international business at Americold.
The upgraded 15,240 m² facility, located near Christchurch airport as well as the central business district, will include features for energy efficiency, rainwater harvesting and solar power. According to the company, the investment has been designed to support temperature-controlled local supply chains and provide infrastructure for future growth. (js)
