Amazon targets fleet of 70 aircraft by 2021

At the International Paris Air Show this week, Amazon announced a partnership with GE Capital Aviation Services to lease an additional fifteen B737-800 freighters. These units will be added to the five B737-800's already leased from Gecas. They will fly in the USA out of the more than 20 air gateways in the Amazon Air network.

Dave Clark, SVP of Worldwide Operations: "These new aircraft create additional capacity for Amazon Air, building on the investment in our prime free one-day programme. By 2021, Amazon Air will have a portfolio of 70 aircraft flying in our dedicated air network."

Amazon will inaugurate new air facilities this year at Fort Worth Alliance Airport (AFW), Wilmington Air Park (ILN), and Chicago Rockford (RFD). The main air hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky (CVG) will open in 2021. (ah)
