Alternative Parcels hit in FY 2021/2022
The financial results for the UK-based Alternative Parcels Company (APC) in the 2021/22 financial year ending on 31 March 2022 showed some decline. Profit before tax amounted to GBP 6.41 million, a 30% drop compared with the 2020/21 financial year. The decrease was largely due to less post-pandemic consumer demand, inflation, and higher cost.
The effects of the Covid pandemic significantly affected the previous year’s record results, with parcel volumes surging and demand for delivery services at an all-time high. This year, whilst e-commerce remained elevated compared to pre-pandemic levels, the APC has seen its customers work towards a ‘new normal’.
APC has responded to industry-wide issues of recruiting and retaining drivers, implementing its ‘warehouse to wheels’ scheme, to attract and train a new generation of drivers. It is currently servicing about 34,000 customers. (sh)
