Airfreight in Legoland
The airport of Billund, a city located in the middle of Jutland (Denmark) and known worldwide as the place of origin of the Lego bricks, is to become a Northern European centre for airfreight. This is the goal of a long-term agreement that the airport’s operators have reached with Pension Danmark, the kingdom’s largest labour market-oriented pension fund.
The resource-saving ‘Airport City’, for which both partners intend to establish a separate company around the turn of the year, is to include hangars, offices and logistics and storage buildings on 700 ha at the airport. The move should double the current annual airfreight volume to 160,000 t in 2040.
In other news, Maersk Air Cargo recently announced that it has chosen Billund airport as its European air cargo hub. (ah)
