Airbus launches Saf book-and-claim scheme
Airbus is piloting a new book-and-claim system to accelerate the use of sustainable aviation fuel (Saf) in the industry. The initiative, running throughout 2025, will enable operators to purchase Saf certificates and claim associated emission reductions – regardless of where the fuel is physically used.
Initial signatories include SMBC Aviation Capital, AerCap, Comlux, Luxaviation, Novespace, Rive Private Investment and Saf Aerogroup. Airbus will facilitate the process by acquiring Saf certificates and managing them via the ‘Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials’ (RSB) registry.
“For many smaller operators, Saf access remains difficult," said Julien Manhes, Airbus Head of Saf and CO₂ Removals. “Our goal is to simplify access and demonstrate that book-and-claim can be a reliable mechanism to scale Saf adoption worldwide.” (ah)
