Aid for single and group wagon transport
The European Commission has approved a EUR 1.7 billion German scheme to support railfreight operators in single and group wagon transport. The aim is to help rail operators cover part of their high operating costs and promote and maintain the modal shift from road to rail.
Running until 2029, the aid will take the form of direct grants, the EU commission said. According to the German federal ministry of transport BMVI, applications can be submitted annually to the Federal railway authority for the following working timetable period.
The application deadline for the start of funding in 2024 is expected to end on 30 June 2024 for the current timetable period. (ben)
