Advancing the infrastructure in Matadi
The Matadi Gateway Terminal (MGT), operated by International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI), is advancing infrastructure projects in 2025 to improve efficiency and strengthen Matadi’s role as the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s leading maritime hub, as the company has reported.
A major initiative is the construction of a 2.65 km road connecting the port to the Kinkanda traffic circle via Sep Congo and RN14. The first phase, completed in June 2024, covered 1.75 km. The second phase, starting in February 2025, extends the route to RN14-Sep Congo.
The upgraded road is expected to reduce container dwell times and ease congestion in the western Matadi. MGT is also expanding its storage yard to meet rising cargo volumes and extending its parking area. A new pedestrian walkway will also enhance safety for visitors. (ah)
