Acquisition strengthens groupage expertise
In Germany, the Pfenning Group has taken over the freight forwarder Spedition Gräfen. With an 80% share, the contract logistics service provider has secured market access in a Europe-wide groupage network. The acquisition is also expected to create synergies for future and existing contract logistics business.
Spedition Gräfen specialises in long-distance transport, general cargo, refrigerated logistics, consignment warehousing and brand distribution and employs around 220 people.
Under the leadership of managing director Hans-Josef Gräfen, who represents the second generation of owners, the company, which was founded in 1946, has acquired competences in the field of two-man handling, general cargo, and food service, which Pfenning is planning to expand in the future. The Pfenning Group currently employs 6,900 people in Europe. (ben)
