A trio for battery hybrid LNG powered PCTC
United European Car Carriers (UECC), which is jointly owned by Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Wallenius Lines, recently gathered with representatives from Japan Marine Science, MUFG Bank, DNV GL, SDARI, CSSC and CSTC at the Jiangnan Shipyard 2020 in Shanghai (China) to celebrate the steel-cutting ceremony for UECC’s first hybrid battery/LNG powered PCTC.
“I have no doubt that this day will be seen by following generations as a significant milestone in UECC’s history,” UECC’s CEO, Glenn Edvardsen said. The LNG/battery hybrid installation opens a new chapter for this kind of vessel.
Huang, president of the Jiangnan Shipyard Group, concluded: “As the first such hybrid ship in the world, the new 3,600 CEU PCTC can meet the requirements of the full range of services while achieving ultra-low emissions.” (mw)
