A train from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean

The Lobito Corridor in Africa is taking shape: The African Development Bank and Africa Finance Corporation have joined the USA and EU in support of Angola, Congo and Zambia in signing a seven-party MOU to develop the Lobito Corridor and the new Zambia - Lobito line.

The new rail line will run between Luacano in Angola to Kalumbila in Zambia where it will connect with the existing Zambian network at Chingola continuing across the border to the Angolian port of Lobito.

According to the US Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment, the project will enhance regional trade and advance the vision of connected, open-access rail services from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean. (ben)
