A tool to tackle Brexit

Pre-lodged declaration flow for UK border automation is the key to ease the trade of goods in and out of Great Britain.

For Jonathan Bowker, head of E-freight network in UK, his new tool, which is based on the British GVMS (Goods vehicle movement service), is a crucial instrument for handling trade after Brexit: "After the trader submits a pre-lodged declaration (D, E, F or K) with an AI Code (RRS01), the CDS will ensure that a GVMS goods location code is used."

The AI code and the goods location code are a basic requirement to validate the declaration. In the course of the process, the trader is informed about the indicative duty calculations pre-dwell time, giving him the opportunity to see when the declaration is completed.

The submitter is notified of a change in the status of the declaration. Following successful validation, the trader is informed that the pre-lodged declaration has been registered. A timer now starts for the goods arrival message to be submitted.

The trader also transmits the declaration information (Eori) and goods items to the haulier. Finally, the trader is automatically informed when the goods have arrived at their final destination. (sh)
