A takeover in South Africa
With the acquisition of the last 30% of shares in Dachser South Africa, Dachser now becomes the sole owner of its lovechild with Jonen Freight. Dachser South Africa was a successful joint venture between Dachser and the local family-owned Jonen Freight company. It employed 250 people in Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, generating a revenue of EUR 43 million in 2022.
The organisation was originally conceived in 2011 as a venture in which Dachser had a majority stake to boost its air and sea freight network. The remaining shares were taken by the Duve family, which ran Jonen Freight.
It is under Detlev Duve, a son of Jonen Freight’s founder, that the venture succeeded; he will remain as managing director of Dachser South Africa. “Our joint venture in South Africa is a success story. Duve and his experienced team understand the requirements of Southern Africa’s businesses very well,” says Edoardo Podestà, Dachser’s COO of air and sea logistics. (mk)
