A sustainable multi-modal solution
DSV and Schneider Electric have launched the industry’s first multi-modal shipping model using sustainable aviation fuels. The partners have already built two of the eight planned multi-modal shipping bridges: one between Singapore and France and the other between Shanghai and France. Schneider Electric is planning to design and implement six more bridges.
The combination of air and sea transport can cut carbon emissions by up to 40%. During this pilot period, Schneider Electric has converted 50% of airfreight tonnes to the multi-modal model between Singapore and France.
Since sustainable aviation fuels are often very expensive, using sea freight, which is cheaper, for part of the journey makes the solution more attractive for customers. Both of these innovations enable 90% carbon neutral and self-sustaining deliveries, thus helping both companies in their emission reduction goals. (mk)
