A surge in intermodal transport
Lithuanian carrier LTG Cargo transported almost 4.3 million t of cargo in May this year - 2% more than in May 2020. Intermodal cargo volumes grew the most – rising to 19,000 thousand teu in May, 82% above the amount of the same period last year.
This growth is mainly due to the disruption in supply chains between Europe and Asia caused by a ship stranded in the Suez Canal, the company said.
Looking at total cargo throuighput, in May there was a 90,000 t increase in the transportation of mineral products, and plant products volumes climbed by 42,000 t, while oil products dropped by 17% or 176,000 t. (ben)
