A rail link for containers at Port of Houston
USA-based Union Pacific (UP) has started to load containers arriving at the Barbours Cut Container Terminal in the Port of Houston directly onto rail cars and transport the cargo further by rail to Denver, Salt Lake City, Oakland, Los Angeles and El Paso, all metropolitan areas covered by its network. Previously, the containers were trucked from the port to UP’s facility 50 km northeast of Houston.
Also in June and in addition to the new service by UP, Burlington Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) launched an on-dock terminal from which containers are transported from Barbours Cut to Dallas-Fort Worth and Denver. (ben)
